Characterization: how the author portrays characters in a story
There are two types of characterization:
1. Direct characterization: the author directly tells the reader about the character(s).
2. Indirect characterization: the author implies the character(s) traits
**There are 5 ways that an author indirectly characterizes:
1. appearance/physical description
2. the character's inner thoughts and feelings
3. character's speech (dialect)
4. character actions
5. opinions or reactions of other characters toward a particular character, revealing what others think and say about the character.
